Diaries of new start-ups of the game-Wk 3

What a week we had. A total of nearly 1500 balls between all of us. Glad I still have my arms hanging from the sockets. Golfnick has been most impressed by the improvements of these guys. Kudos to all of you. However I must admit, ole olaf may not have the proper qualification for guiding these newbies but I think we are on the right track. Here are some of my views on how we can improve them from hence…

The “mental” game of Golf

It has been said by many a wise golfer that there are two sides to the game of golf. Is there? I had always thought that there had only been one invented by the Scots. But No! That wasn’t the point that these wise golfers were talking about. It is more towards the “physical” side and the “mental” side of golf. Olaf, never one of the intellectuals of any games (to start with) had a look at this “mental” side from his angle and bought a book called “Golf is a game of confidence” by Dr. Bob Rotella. It has been a good read thus far and helps me to understand why Olaf has never been able to break 90 in a round.

Can Ernie do it?

Ernie Els 002Who doesn’t love the big “easy”? The big giant golfer from South Africa with his quiet demeanor and almost effortless swing has golfers around the globe mesmerized. Every time he plays, a good amount of his fans are quietly waiting to see his name atop the leader board. But sadly, it hasn’t happened for the past two years. Reason being, he was held back with a knee injury and out for about ½ a season.

Diaries of new start-ups of the game

Practice in sessionGolfnick has recently been busy helping to bring up the numbers of golfers into the world. And in the future posts, we hope to bring forth to our viewers the very own diaries of these individuals. Each coming from a different background and most of them have never held a club until our very own golf meet a fortnight ago. Please note that all of them share only a common interest, they are all bloggers! Let’s introduce them as well as what Olaf thinks each have to do to improve their swing:

Driving Range meet

My dear friends and readers, I am proposing that we meet up again this Saturday 12th May 2007. Venue will be the Bukit Jalil driving Range. Time: 3.00pm. For some additional news, Olaf’s Grand Master will be joining us for the meet. Take this opportunity to see this wise man who may hold a 24-handicap but is always ready to play. Just for the love of the game!

For those who will be joining us for the first time, you will not need to bring anything but just dress in a shirt, shorts, socks and a pair of trainers. If you happen to have a club with you, bring it along! If you have other things such as gloves and the likes, please feel free to bring them.

First Driving Range Blog Meet

Olaf and a bunch of bloggers had a rather unique blog meet yesterday at the Bukit Jalil Golf and Country Club driving range. As far as we can tell, it is a first. The turn out was small with a mixed of newbies and golfers with a few years of experience but we had lots of fun and laughter helping each other improve on our golf swing. Between the 7 of us, we managed to hit 1,000 balls and collected a few backaches.

It was such a blast that we have already started planning for another session. Stay tuned to Golfnick for the announcement.

Thanks goes to Wingz, Kenny Ng, Dale, CKYEO and PennyPupz for attending our driving range blog meet, especially to Wingz for coordinating the event and spreading the word.

Now for some photos:

Golfing with Golfnick

This coming Saturday (May 5th, 2007), we are going to have a fun gathering at the driving range. Olaf wants to invite anyone who is going to be in the vicinity of Kelang Valley, Malaysia to join us for a driving range meet this coming Saturday. Those interested please drop a note to Wingz (rojaks.wingz[at]gmail.com) the coordinator. Details of the meet can be found here.

Golfnick would also like to thank Wingz for helping us spread the word. His reach with his Rojaks Daily is going to be much better than what GolfNick could achieve in a few months.
