Diaries of new start-ups of the game-Wk 3

May 31st, 2007 by Olaf Bound.s

What a week we had. A total of nearly 1500 balls between all of us. Glad I still have my arms hanging from the sockets. Golfnick has been most impressed by the improvements of these guys. Kudos to all of you. However I must admit, ole olaf may not have the proper qualification for guiding these newbies but I think we are on the right track. Here are some of my views on how we can improve them from hence…

Kenny Ng — of Let’s Crap… Let’s Rock!!!

This man is a super hero in my book. From barely 3 weeks from just holding a club for the first time in his hands, already he is belting the balls well. But look at yourself in the mirror is all the tell tale signs where you may need to improve.

From stationary position, the postures is good but look carefully in slo-mo, instead of turning your shoulder and lifting the hands after the 9 o’clock position, you are actually swaying your body to adjust to your swing. Look at your legs and it will show you. I also feel that you should work on the 9 o’clock position and don’t bring it too far to the inside or right of your body. Also you need to swing at the ball and not hit at it. Remember the 1-2-3 rhythm count. Work on it.

Dale — of HizeCool : 孩子哭

Not a bad improvement overall! But please you need to look at your body turn. Your upper body is moving from side to side. Don’t try too hard to hit the ball. You have to learn to bring the club up slowly and swing. Keep working on the move away sequence from the ball and we’ll have a look again.

CK — of Sky Keep You

This swing is an arms swing and not really using the bigger muscles like your body turn. If you see yourself in this video, the arms are all moving and in the end the legs are trying to adjust. At the end of the day, you seem to hit the ball the best among us but you may not see the returns in the near future. The lack of control and the mishits will make you look more clearly on which area you can see improvements.

Han — official photographer of Golfnick

Dear Han, you have nearly all of the symptoms for all of the above fellas but in small bits. You need to look at and compare your swing with Freddy couples or Ernie Els! They are very relaxed and their bodies are not having these many moving parts. Your hips are moving from side to side and well, we’ve been through this before, haven’t we?

Wingz — of Rojaks Daily

For a man of your unique size and build, you handle the club well. I believe you have a natural ability to swing the club to the ball but before we can go further, the posture is of paramount importance to your swing. If you notice from the video, your posture is much better than it used to be. Your grip has improved and so has the quality of the strike. But look at your legs. You are in what the swing gurus’ term as “the reverse pivot.” A lot of this has to deal with your posture! I know the body is difficult to adjust at first hand but…….

Olaf — of Golfnick

Last but not least. OLAF ohh OLAF. Never try this stunt again! Hitting with only a hand makes you look worst than your handicap! Which already is for life!

Last but not least, everybody well done. Please remember! Our objective here is not to become a great golfer, not yet anyway! But to enjoy it. And speaking for myself, I had a great time. I’ve enjoyed the company. I won’t be around this weekend and hope you guys will carry on without me. I have invited the grandmaster Choo to see if he can make it but go on ahead! Until the next meet…
