Diaries of new start-ups of the game
May 20th, 2007 by Olaf Bound.s
Golfnick has recently been busy helping to bring up the numbers of golfers into the world. And in the future posts, we hope to bring forth to our viewers the very own diaries of these individuals. Each coming from a different background and most of them have never held a club until our very own golf meet a fortnight ago. Please note that all of them share only a common interest, they are all bloggers! Let’s introduce them as well as what Olaf thinks each have to do to improve their swing:
Wingz — of Rojaks Daily
A man of great build and a solid natural swing! We suspect he has been secretly practicing behind our back. He has whacked a few balls before on the range but never on the green.
Needs to improve: Never ever had a session with a golf pro, he needs help on all the basics. Posture, grip, swing plane and relatively no short game. During the past week, Golfnick has shown him a proper grip and the correct posture. We’ll chart his progress in the future after his hands have healed! He is suffering from hitting too many balls with a wrong grip!
Kenny — of Let’s Crap… Let’s Rock!!!
Smaller build. Never held a golf club before! But has very good discipline. He is now able to hit near the 100 meter mark with a seven iron.
Needs to improve: Has a tendency to try to whack the ball out of sight! but remains back on track when the ball still remains on the mat. Needs work on his swing plane and slowly into a full bloodied swing. Right now only swinging at half swing.
Dale — of HizeCool : 孩子哭
An athlete’s body. Young and willing to learn. Desires to learn the game at all cost!
Needs to improve: Too many things to describe. Hasn’t been practising at all. Grip is good though. Needs to work on his hand-eye coordination! Too many movements of the body.
Han — official photographer of Golfnick
Terrific build for a golfer. Has great hand-eye coordination!
Needs to improve: Desire to play the game. He is only around coz he is our photographer. But his swing is a talented one. Needs all round work on posture, grip and swing plane. Tends to overdo things at the top of his swing. Can be corrected easily with a one-piece takeaway.
Penny — of -PeNNyPupZ-
The only lady golfer from the group. For a girl, she packs a punch. Has a lovely swing and is a natural for the game.
Needs to improve: Her swing plane is poor. Tends to rush the shot and needs to groove up her rhythm. Needs work on her grip and posture as well.
OlafBounds — of Golfnick
Can hardly give points on myself, can I?
Needs to improve: Over the top syndrome is very apparent. Pushed shots to the left as well as the occasional slice. Problems lay at the top of the swing, when upon the downward swing the tendency to pull the left hand down, forcing the body to jerk to the left. Needs to practice further.
There it is, a short introduction to the regulars in our group of what looks like for now a weekly practice session. A report card format to track our progress in the driving range will follow in later post. We are still working out the details on the format and how to be less subjective in the scores. Of course as time progresses (and hopefully our swing), all of us will have to engage a golf pro to work out our swings before we can enter the greens. But hopefully, we should get there before 2008.

Man, that seems like fun.
