Golf Etiquette

Golf Etiquette (pronounce air-ticket) to some of you out there! This is known as the compiled (not rules) but standard practice of playing the beautiful game of golf. It is sometimes called by other sports as a sportsmanship conduct. Here are some of the examples;

Etiquette 1. You are not supposed to run on the putting green! But since fast play is essential for playing the game so everyone can enjoy their game. Therefore, you have to walk briskly without damaging the green. Somewhere around 5-7mph is required. And especially no sprinting. However, when required you can take off your shoes and run when the flight at the back is shouting “fore” in your direction.

Etiquette 2. No shouting or making very loud noises! The only exceptions to the rule are when your shot goes way out of where you want it to go (about 50% of the time) and where you have to suck in your stomach and bellow “Ball!” or “Fore!” And never ever shout to the group in front to hit the ball. They might just hit it to you!

Etiquette 3. Do not shoot/hit into the group in front of you! Please, not everyone is a born natural golfer like yourself. This is where great patience is learned! After all! If they are in the middle of the fairway, chances are you’ll never hit it there.

Etiquette(or not) 4. Be honest with your score and handicap. A golf handicap is where you have been adjudged to play at a certain level. Declaring a handicap higher than you deserve is total dishonesty. It also has no relevance whatsoever with a broken limb or mind!

Etiquette 5. Do not speak or talk when your playing partners are putting. However, you may comment to him before he putts like “the green is really slow today” (very softly), especially when he is putting down a slope.

Etiquette 6. Rake the sand bunker after you leave it. It helps to promote goodwill to the group behind you. Also if you took several strokes to get out of there, you can always throw a whammy at the group behind to join you in there!

Etiquette 7. Do not! I repeat DO NOT walk on the intended line of your playing partner! Especially if he (and yourself) are betting heavily against your opposition.

Etiquette 8. Do not throw you golf clubs in anger! This is a warning to all golfers out there! Especially if there is a pond nearby. More often than not, you will get wet picking it out!

Only some of the etiquettes, I can think of at the moment. Read and digest really slowly. It might make sense eventually some fine sunny golfing day. Happy Golfing!!!
