Handicap anyone?

Before we go any further on the technical part of acquiring a handicap card or the task of rating our game, I like to bring to attention to the courses available to the fair country of Malaysia. Golfing with a card has its pros and cons. Take a few examples that I have come across:

First and foremost: Golfing in Malaysia, it is customary to show your handicap card in certain Golf Courses to ensure that you have a certain degree of etiquette when you are playing. So, is there any other use for it apart from registering over at the counter? The answer is yes. Why? To show your playing partners today that you have a handicap that is about 6 stokes higher than truth.

Second: To show that you belong to a prestigious club and you are playing in this mediocre golf course just to entertain your playing partners.

Third: To ensure that you have a certain degree of expertise when it comes to golfing

Lastly: It helps you to pick the locker room lock when you have lost the keys during the round.

Just to share a genuine case with you. Olaf wanted to book a flight for night golfing with a few friends. So Olaf called ahead and this is how the telephone conversation went;

Olaf: Hello. Is this WGCGC (Wonderfully Great Country Golf Club)?
Operator: Yeah! (Grumpy sound at the other end)

Olaf: I’d like to book a round of golf for tonight.
Operator: What time? (Totally uninterested tone of voice)

Olaf: Around 5.00 pm
Operator: Night Golfing ah? How many person?

Olaf: A full flight
Operator: Remember, must have handicap card or else cannot play!

Olaf: Can you make some allowances for us? I have yet to receive my latest handicap card! (Blatant lie)
Operator: What about your playing partners?

Olaf: No! They also haven’t received theirs. (Worse lie than the first one)
Operator: Got IC (Malaysian Identity Card) or not?

Olaf: Of course
Operator: OKlah. But don’t be late! Very full tonight! Also credit card machine out, must bring cash!

Olaf: ??????????

Hahahahaha! So! You see in Malaysia, please get yourself a VALID handicap card!
