Holy Shit! 430 yards!

January 29th, 2007 by Olaf Bound.s

Ever heard of a fella called J.B. Holmes? Apparently, for the past two years. This “bomber” who has one of the most awkward swings on the PGA tour can “smite” and I mean literally smite the ball further than 85% of the golfing population can reach in two (stand aside J. Daly). Irregardless of whether it is downhill of wind assisted, I can’t honestly believe that this can be happening! I carry a handicap of 16 and although I can quite smite the ball myself (about close to 300 yards) on my best drive, I can’t believe that anyone could be able to conjure up a strike with that sort of distance and accuracy. A lot has been spoken on the new balls and equipment but in my best estimate, it can only help that much. The new drivers and balls have put a lot of golf courses to shame.

To the tour player, a 400 yard par four is now reachable in a single stroke. with the advancement in technology. We, ordinary golfers will soon be faced with a 480 yard par 4 as a standard. What happen to the old adage telling us to drive for show and putt for dough will be thrown out the window, literally! There is no substitute for a good short game but can you imagine teeing up with a new kid who is constantly using no more than a wedge to go “on”. Whilst oldies like us will be wondering where to get the newest “Taylormade”, “Cleveland”, “Titlelist” and etc, etc…. Anyway, from what I have seen thus far and with experience, I can tell you that I have tried the new “Sasquath”. It can add about 15 yards for every 10mph increment in your swing speed. So it works out to be this way, if by chance you can increase your swing speed every time you buy a new driver “Go get one, NOW”. But until my hips recover from my new change in golf swing, I am betting Tiger isn’t going to take this sitting down.
