US Open 2007 contenders
June 13th, 2007 by Olaf Bound.sThe annual major event is back! The Masters has always had the prestige and glamour. The British Open is a touch of class with a severe test of nature strikes back! and the PGA Championship, well how do you describe it. Just one of the four, I guess. BUT tomorrow, the test of the year is back. Rated as the one of the toughest test of the 4 majors is going to start, Oakmont is the big test this year and who will second guess the speed of the greens. The US of A always show-cases the best of courses every year. As in the words of Gary McCord, “The greens look like they were bikini waxed”. Although this was said during the 1990’s about the Masters. One can only guess how fast the greens are going to be in this tournament. But let’s talk about the serious contenders this year!
My top picks :

1. Rory Sabattini- Rory what? Sabattini. Call it a long shot but I believe this guy is really in form. He has been sinking putts left, right, front and everywhere you can think of!

2. Phil Mickelson- Apart from a smarting wrist and mouth. Who wants to bet against him?

3. Zach Johnson- Can he do it again? Looks still in form.

4. Tiger- I don’t even want to bother writing his full name. You know him and so do I. OK Tiger WOODS. Is Elin’s birth plan going to disrupt his rhythm? Sing him a lullaby when he post his score come Sunday.

5. For sentimental purposes only, Yes Ernie Els. Please Ernie, do us a favor and really get in your groove. No offense. of course!
Now, who have I left out?? Vijay Singh, Geoff Ogilvy, Jim Furyk and probably, some guy we have not heard of yet. But like most majors for the past few years, the big bombers or long hitters may not make it to the weekend. I think the shot makers will most likely make the top 10. But this is the US OPEN, after all. Take your pick
