Used clubs anyone?
April 20th, 2007 by Olaf Bound.sI am not a very firm believer in buying any golf clubs before trying them out. Believe me! I have tried to purchase on eBay but always came out short. But I read a great post just a few days ago and was surprised to see that someone had done extensive research on buying used golf clubs. This post is a must read for anyone wanting to look for some clubs.
But here are some tips; I think I would like to share with you golfers out there:
- Be sure of what you want to buy. My advice is “if you haven’t play them before, don’t buy them”. There is always a reason why certain clubs are designed differently. For an 18 to 24 handicapper, don’t ever try to purchase irons which have a blade look. You are not as good as you think you are!
- A driver that tells you that you will never slice again. WRONG! The problem more often than not is your swing plane. And a driver with an anti-slice solver comes with an offset design is a sure killer for making it slice even worse for an in to out swing.
- Try your playing partner’s irons or if possible, find a driving range to try out the iron sets before you set out to buy them!
- Cosmetics will impress your playing partners, not your play!!! All the new clubs look beautiful, so do models with make up but it doesn’t mean you have to marry them.
- Selecting the perfect putter means you like its feel. Very IMPORTANT!! Try it if possible on a proper green. The putting mat is not even close to the real thing. Also, take your medicine and try all the lengths of shafts. If you have a continuous habit to miss 3 feet putts, try the long putter or the belly putter! If it is good enough for Vijay, it’s good enough for you.
- BEST advice I can give you, Ask your golf professional as to which clubs will suit your swing. If you can afford it, go for custom fit clubs!
